Course Information
This course introduces the challenge of bird strikes to modern aviation operations. This course can be used as an introduction or a recurrent review of the bird strike risk and avoidance program. This course includes the following: A review of the damage caused by bird strikes on an annual basis in the world, to include the worst offending types of birds for different locations. The degree of risk faced by aircrews arriving and departing certain airports. A review of flight planning techniques to follow to be aware of the bird strike threat prior to departure. A discussion of routes used for bird migration to raise your knowledge of threat areas. A review of land areas not compatible for use as airport locations. A discussion on bird strike reporting requirements of ICAO OPS 1.420. After viewing this program, the pilot is better prepared to face the bird strike threat to their daily operations.
